Mobile Fire-Rescue began firefighter one and two training for its recruits after nine weeks in EMT school. The program covers essentials of firefighting, including history, hazmat awareness and rapid intervention, according to Captain Jonathon Lyles.
Mobile hosts as a regional training facility, so recruits from Spanish Fort, Daphne and Prichard joined this class and will graduate with the same standards as Mobile crews.
The 29-recruit class includes Paul James, inspired by an uncle who spent years as a firefighter. Recruits say EMT training revealed strengths and challenges and that they’ll push each other through a demanding path, forming a close-knit team, says Cleveland Barnes.
FOX10 News will follow the recruits through graduation in November.
