Shasta College has launched a Modular Fire Fighter 1 Academy in 2025 to provide a flexible option for students. The two-semester program offers the same Firefighter 1 certification as the full-time academy, while allowing participants to balance work and family commitments or study from out of state.
Fifteen students enrolled in the modular program during its first semester, with a full class of about 20 anticipated this coming term. Officials say there have been no curriculum changes since the first semester, though a physical fitness component is being added and prerequisites are being evaluated to ensure graduates are job-ready.
