Concord firefighters took part in rare live-fire training at Worcester’s burn-building facility, with several practice burns held last month. A grant of roughly $21,000 from the Leary Firefighters Foundation made the sessions possible, enabling the department to refresh skills beyond regular academy drills.
This was the first broad live-fire program Concord has offered in years, and it served both seasoned crews and newer recruits. Fire officials said real flames provide a level of experience unmatched by simulated drills.
During the sessions, crews dragged mannequins from the structure, shoveled burnt hay to feed the fire, and learned under the guidance of CFD officers who also teach at the state firefighting academy.
The training was conducted September 28.
