The Plumas County Fire Safe Council notes Quincy Fire Academy completed its 22nd year as a cornerstone training program that strengthens volunteer departments across the region. This year’s academy brought together a new group of 16 volunteer firefighters from Plumas County and beyond, hosted by the Quincy Fire Protection District, using NFPA Firefighter I curriculum. The program provides a solid foundation for recruits to continue training at their home departments and through regional opportunities.
Over six Saturdays, recruits trained in a facility with a three-story tower, propane live-fire area, vertical ventilation prop, forcible entry, self-rescue and salvage props, and a classroom. Training topics included SCBA use, fire behavior, safety, building construction, hose handling, size-up, salvage and overhaul, ventilation.
