Two Westminster residents recently graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s Call/Volunteer Recruit Firefighter Training Program at the Department of Fire Services’ Springfield campus. The 240-hour program is designed for part-time or on-call firefighters, offering evening and weekend classes to fit work and family schedules.
Graduates trained in fire suppression, search and rescue, hazardous materials response, and more through classroom instruction, physical fitness training, and live-fire exercises under controlled conditions.
The Call/Volunteer program provides a standard recruit training curriculum on nights and weekends to accommodate suburban and rural firefighters, and has produced more than 3,000 graduates who meet national standards. Graduates may seek certification as Firefighter I/II and Hazardous Materials Operational Level Responder.
