Goodfellow AFB hosted its Junior Firefighter Camp July 13–17, 2026. The program teaches children 10–12 fire safety and firefighting fundamentals through hands-on training, teamwork, and emergencies. The camp began 20 years ago to educate youth about fire safety and firefighting, including life safety and technical rescue.
Day one included orientation and first-aid basics. Day two covered gear, bunker drills, maintenance, and ladder techniques. Day three focused on knot-tying and rigging. Day four covered hose handling, water-stream control, and search-and-rescue with a smoke-simulated environment. Day five featured a tour of the Louis F. Garland Department of War Fire Academy and a graduation at the Goodfellow Fire Station.
A fire inspector noted past campers have helped in emergencies with their training.
