The Permian Strategic Partnership is investing $1.5 million over four years to expand TEEX’s regional training program across 19 counties in the Permian Basin, bringing firefighter certification academies and emergency-response classes closer to home for first responders.
The funding will hire a local adjunct instructor to coordinate training, fund fire academies and other classes, and expand access to facilities. About 200 participants are expected to be trained annually, with a focus on on-scene response to vehicle crashes.
Certification-level training will help meet Texas Commission on Fire Protection requirements, including 474 hours of firefighter training and 40 hours of EMS training. The investment addresses the shortage of certified firefighters and first responders and expands access to advanced and specialized training.
