The Puyallup Extrication Team hosted a four-day extrication training for fire departments across Alaska.
Anchorage Fire Department and several North Slope departments participated in hands-on simulations reflecting real-world scenarios.
Chief Doug Schrage of AFD said, “There’s no substitute for this level of hands-on training,” noting the value of manipulating tools, cranes and lifts to stay current with new trends, tools, and electric vehicles.
The Puyallup team noted EMS calls are the primary response, with motor vehicle collisions second, and training helps crews practice on different vehicles in varied scenarios.
Jeff Pugh, president of the Puyallup Extrication Team, said, “Extrication is the art of making space, but our focus is time.”
