The Hawaiʻi Fire Department celebrated the graduation of its 54th Firefighter Recruit Class, with 18 recruits completing training and receiving badges at a ceremony in Hilo. Family, fire service personnel and county leadership were on hand to recognize the completion of recruit training and the start of their fire service careers.
Officials praised the training division for a strong response to a recent brush fire, and reflected on the badge as a symbol of purpose and service. Fifteen graduates began their first assignments with the department, while three will serve in Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting. The department thanked instructors, cadets’ families and supporters.
