State Rep. Tim Kelly announced that $910,000 has been included in Michigan’s state budget to help build a permanent fire station for the Elsie Area Fire Department. The department currently operates from a temporary facility provided by a local owner and will use the funds to establish a permanent station.
The Elsie area, serving the village of Elsie and Duplain, Fairfield and Chapin townships, protects more than 52,000 residents across about 75 square miles, with mutual aid support across nearly 600 square miles. The project will provide secure equipment storage, dedicated firefighter training space, and a central location for operations, and is expected to take 12 to 18 months after funding is awarded.
