The City of Decatur Fire Department is partnering with Decatur High School’s Career Academy on a new Firefighter Apprenticeship Program designed to prepare students for careers in the Fire Service and help address a firefighter shortage.
The program will allow students to earn their Firefighter Certification while still in high school. It includes physical training and hands-on practice as they work toward certification. Officials say the department is facing a shortage of applicants and hope the program will build a pipeline of future firefighters.
