Teens from across Chicago are getting a taste of firefighting as Camp Courage returns to the city. The Chicago Fire Department is hosting the three-day program at the Engine Company No. 121 firehouse in the Beverly neighborhood, with seven camps planned across seven weeks and seven city neighborhoods.
Participants hoist ladders, haul gear, and try to master hose handling, while learning how torque can push a firefighter backward. On EMS day, they will also receive emergency medical services training. The initiative aims to teach leadership and team-building in addition to firefighting skills, and the campers are scheduled to graduate on Wednesday.
