The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville is launching a firefighter rookie school in partnership with White River Firefighter Training Association and area fire departments. The program uses a curriculum from the Arkansas Fire Training Academy in Camden and covers Firefighter I and II material. It starts Oct. 6 and runs 38 weeks.
Local fire departments and the White River Training Association Chiefs will provide equipment, vehicles and instructors, with Captain Robert Beel of the Searcy Fire Department serving as lead instructor. “We want to support the next generation of fire fighters in our area,” said Stacey Caplener, Pleasant Plains fire chief.
