Forty-eight personnel from 16 fire departments representing three counties participated in a multi-department training exercise over the weekend in Eastern North Carolina.
Lenoir County Emergency Services said the session, held Saturday, July 11, focused on teamwork, coordination and rural water supply operations.
During the exercise, firefighters drafted water directly from area ponds and flowed more than 53,000 gallons, giving crews hands-on experience with rural water supply.
Officials said such training helps ensure firefighters are prepared to respond effectively when communities need them most.
Lenoir County Emergency Services thanked the departments and recognized Hugo Volunteer Fire & Rescue Chief Greg Johnson for organizing the event.
