Republic Fire Department hosted a training session focused on school bus rescue, a rare but serious type of motor vehicle crash. Firefighters learned techniques for responding to bus incidents, using retired buses donated by the Republic School District. Participants from Willard, Battlefield, Brookline and Neosho fire departments joined the session.
Practice scenarios covered cutting roofs and sidewalls, removing windows and seats, and creating new access points to reach passengers. The course highlighted that school bus rescue is not typically taught in standard fire academies and requires an additional certification.
