Stanwood — Mecosta Township Fire/Rescue and Morley Area Fire hosted a free community fire rescue training night at Brower Park’s shallow water boat launch, around 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 12. Firefighters used the Muskegon River as a water source for drafting, relay pumping and hose lines, while community members toured apparatus and tried the equipment.
The event gave visitors a chance to spray a hose and handle one, as crews demonstrated and checked gear. Morley Area Fire joined the training, providing opportunities for newer firefighters to gain pump experience.
Pressures ranged from about 40 psi for children’s lines to about 130 psi for the deck gun. Staffing shortages were noted, with departments seeking volunteers.
