Guilford Technical Community College will host firefighters from Mexico for a second year through Programa Mayday, which coordinates professional development for firefighters nationwide. Participants pay training and travel costs from various Mexican fire departments.
Led by GTCC fire instructors, this year’s program centers on pump operations, emphasizing moving large volumes of water over long distances from natural sources such as lakes, rivers and ponds. Rural water supply is a critical skill where municipal systems aren’t always available.
When: Wednesday, August 12 at 9:30 a.m. Where: GTCC Jamestown Campus ERTC2 / Drill Tower, 5906 Stanford Rd, Jamestown, NC. Who: Matt Thorpe, GTCC Director, Fire Occupational Extension Program.
