Camp Fury, a weeklong leadership camp run by the Kansas City Fire Department, invites high school girls curious about fire service or emergency response to explore the career through hands-on training. The program aims to teach public-safety options while developing leadership and confidence. Seventeen-year-old Park Hill South student McKenzie Sullivan, who recently experienced a house fire, said increasing female representation is important.
More than two dozen participants joined female firefighter instructors for immersive experiences, including live vehicle fire drills, hands-only CPR, Stop the Bleed, ventilation operations, and K9 and drone demonstrations. Instructors emphasize empowerment, skill-building, and camaraderie in what they describe as a rewarding career.
