A firefighter with West Metro Fire Rescue was critically injured in a 50-foot fall during a technical rescue training exercise west of C-470 in the southwestern part of the Denver metro area on Wednesday. The fall occurred shortly after 11 a.m. near Morrison Road and South Rooney Road, according to West Metro and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
The firefighter, Jarrod Leonard, was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Leonard is a technical rescue instructor with West Metro Fire Rescue and has served the department for 23 years.
West Metro serves multiple municipalities on the west side of the metro area, including Jefferson County.
