A $25,000 check was presented to the Osceola Junior Firefighter Program, one of four winners in the latest Wisconsin DSPS Youth Firefighter Training grants. DSPS and Secretary Dan Hereth presented the grant on Tuesday. The funding will cover turnout gear for youth in the program, a collaboration among the Osceola School District, Allied Emergency Services and Northwoods Technical College. Students can earn credit for their fire training through Northwoods Technical College and become volunteer firefighters.
Allied Emergency Services responded to 173 fire calls in 2025, with 12 firefighters able to respond per call. Time commitments for families and jobs have reduced volunteer numbers, highlighting the need to invest in recruitment opportunities.
