Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation has awarded $75,000 through its community fund to Robbin Mackbee Firefighter/EMS Youth Academy in Vallejo, a program run by Support for Actively Rising Youth. The grant backs mentorship, life skills coaching, and career exploration for youths pursuing safety careers. Academy connects cadets with seasoned firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics, expanding training in fire behavior, extinguishment, CPR, first aid, and disaster preparedness. The effort aims to enroll about 30 cadets this year and broaden opportunities for Vallejo youth facing academic or economic challenges. Yocha Dehe Fire Chief Shawn Kinney called the program impressive, noting significant training and safety impact. Anthony Roberts, Chairman of the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, emphasized investing in youth to strengthen communities. In 2025, the academy reached 3,000 people through demonstrations. The tribe also funds higher-education initiatives and partnerships with Vallejo Fire Department, Medic Ambulance, and Vallejo City Unified School District.
