Local firefighters from Midway, Holley-Navarre, and Navarre Beach joined forces for a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) training exercise late last month in Santa Rosa County. Hosted by Midway Fire District Station 37, the three-day session brought together crews from several departments across the South Santa Rosa Fire Alliance to strengthen their readiness for high-risk rescue scenarios. Participants practiced coordinated responses, communication, and deployment techniques designed to keep crews safe if a firefighter becomes trapped or overwhelmed in a structure fire. The event reinforced the alliance’s collaborative approach to training and incident response, ensuring swift mutual aid across the county. By sharing experiences and resources, these departments improve safety for both firefighters and residents during emergencies. The countywide collaboration through the alliance ensures a quicker, more cohesive response when every second counts. The training also highlighted ongoing opportunities for cross-agency drills and shared equipment to support ongoing readiness.
